Time: 11.00 am
Venue- Seminar hall 1-Universal School of Administration
Universal School of Administration, under the IQAC initiative, organized a workshop on “Mentoring and Counselling Skills” on June 28, 2023, with Ms. Swarnalatha, MD, CEO of Seshans Academy Bangalore, as the speaker. The session was quite informative and beneficial for the participants. Here’s a summary of the key points:
- Introduction and Tree Drawing: The session started with a visual representation of the relationship between Management, Principal, Faculties, and Students, using a “Tree” analogy. This likely served as a foundation for understanding the dynamics in educational institutions.
- Role of Mentors: The responsibilities of mentors were explained, emphasizing how they can support and guide students, particularly in challenging situations.
- Communication Tools: Participants were provided with a mentor communication checklist, a listening questionnaire, and handouts to enhance their communication and listening skills. This would help improve interactions between mentors and mentees.
Objectives Achieved: The workshop aimed to achieve several objectives, and it appears that these were met successfully:
- Holistic Development: Fostering the holistic development of students/mentees.
- Personal Growth: Supporting students’ personal growth.
- Understanding Emotions: Enhancing the ability to understand students’ emotions.
- Career Guidance: Guiding students in choosing the correct career path.
Outcomes: The workshop resulted in the following outcomes:
- Fundamental Understanding: Participants gained a practical understanding of fundamental mentorship and counseling concepts.
- Teen Psychology: They developed a better understanding of teen psychology.
- Communication Improvement: Barriers of communication between students, faculties, and management were overcome.
- Problem Solving: Participants learned how to solve problems faced by mentees in difficult situations.
Feedback and Suggestions: The feedback received from participants was largely positive, with attendees finding the workshop useful and excellent. Some suggestions for improvement included conducting a Management Development Program with the same resource person and having an extended session on mentoring.
Action Taken: Based on the feedback analysis, the IQAC cell decided to conduct more programs related to the same topic in the future, targeting both students and faculties. This reflects a commitment to continuous improvement and the recognition of the value of the workshop in enhancing mentoring and counseling skills within the institution.
Overall, it seems like the workshop was a success and that it will contribute positively to the development and support of students and mentees at the Universal School of Administration.
