Deep Fake
A deepfake refers to a type of synthetic media, typically in the form of videos or images, that is created or altered using artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning techniques.·  In a deepfake, the appearance or voice of a person in existing content is manipulated or replaced with someone else’s, often resulting in a highly convincing and realistic portrayal.·  Deepfakes can be used for various purposes, ranging from entertainment to more malicious activities, such as spreading misinformation or creating deceptive content.Government’s Advisory on Misinformation and Deep fakes:·  Social media intermediaries are urged to exercise due diligence and take reasonable measures to detect and combat the dissemination of such content.·  The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology emphasizes the necessity for prompt action in line with the IT Rules 2021.·  Any content identified as misinformation or deepfake must be promptly removed within 36 hours of being reported.·  Non-compliance with the IT Act and Rules may lead to consequences as outlined in Rule 7 of IT Rules 2021, potentially impacting the legal protections afforded to organizations under Section 79(1) of the IT Act.

  • Emphasizes the need for media to be on guard against the emerging dangers of deepfakes and suggests educating others about this potential threat.
