Exhibition and Guest Lecture on Numismatics

The Department of History at the Universal School of Administration, as part of the IQAC initiative, organized a one-day program on June 28th, 2023, centered around the theme of “Exhibition and Guest Lecture on Numismatics.”
Mr. H K Ramarao, a passionate Numismatist and retired engineer from Bangalore, was the key contributor to this event. He showcased his remarkable collection of 1900 coins, spanning from 400 BCE to the modern era. The coins on display were made from various materials, including beads, bones, and metals.
This event served as a valuable educational opportunity for students. It played a crucial role in fostering their research skills, encouraging them to explore, gather, and comprehend information regarding the coinage systems of different historical periods. Coins are regarded as vital primary sources of historical information, and this exhibition helped students appreciate their significance.
Furthermore, the event aimed to instill in students the habit of collecting and preserving coins, promoting a sense of cultural and historical preservation. Numismatics, the study of coins, not only sheds light on the economic aspects of the past but also offers insights into the broader historical and cultural context of different civilizations. Therefore, such initiatives are essential for promoting a holistic understanding of history and encouraging the pursuit of knowledge among students.
