India’s Fisheries Sector ·  India is the 3rd largest fish producing and 2nd largest aquaculture nation in the world after China.·  The Blue Revolution in India demonstrated importance of Fisheries and Aquaculture sector.·  Fisheries Sector is considered as a sunrise sector.·  Marine fisheries- 30 % (nearly)·  Inland Fisheries – 70 % (nearly)·  The Indian government sanctioned the flagship scheme, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), in May 2020 as part of the Aatmanirbhar initiative to promote fishery sector.

Gujarat’s Contribution:

  • Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted Gujarat’s significance, holding the highest coastline in India.
  • Gujarat contributes 17 percent to the country’s fisheries exports.
  • Coastal sector’s pivotal role in realizing PM’s vision of a self-reliant India emphasized during Amrit Kal.

World Fisheries Awards:

  • Awards recognizing outstanding contributions in the fisheries sector were distributed.
  • Inland Reservoir Leasing portal launched by CM Bhupendra Patel.
  • Declaration of Dhol fish as the State fish of Gujarat.

The conference marks a significant platform for addressing challenges and paving the way for sustainable growth in India’s fisheries sector.
