Why in the News?
OneWeb India, backed by Bharti Group, has received regulatory approval from IN-SPACe, the Indian space regulator, to launch Eutelsat OneWeb’s commercial satellite broadband services in India.
Pioneering Authorization
- OneWeb India becomes the first organization to obtain this authorization, marking a significant milestone in the deployment of satellite broadband services in the country.
Low Earth Orbit Operator
- Eutelsat OneWeb, operating in low earth orbit, is part of the Eutelsat Group. IN-SPACe, based in Ahmedabad, has granted the authorization, allowing the provisioning of satellite capacity for communication services in India.
Validity and Spectrum Assignment:
- The authorization holds a validity period of five years, contingent upon the Department of Telecommunication’s assignment of spectrum for both gateway and user terminal operations.
Digital India Initiative:
- Sunil Bharti Mittal expresses satisfaction, emphasizing that the regulatory green light aligns with India’s goal of universal internet connectivity, supporting the vision of a Digital India.
