Report on Industrial Visit
On 3rd September 2022, Saturday with a total of 39 students along with Faculty Co-ordinator Ms. Deepika Vettikuntla, Assistant Professor of Commerce an Industrial Visit was organised for:
- Understanding the costing methods
- For learning process costing
- Determination of cost per unit
- Cost control measures
- Identifying cost centres
The industrial visit started at 12:00 PM, Factory Head, Mr. Sanath Kumar P, welcomed everyone to the UNIBIC cookies factory. After initial checks at the front gate, the students were taken inside to show the raw materials used to manufacture the cookies, mixing area, oven area, cocoa room, the cookie formation and the packaging section.
Students watched the manufacturing process of two kinds of cookies – chocolate and butter cookies followed by a walk around the packing section. He introduced the company and also mentioned that the company was started in 2004 which is an Australian originated company. Then he further explained about the production levels of the Company where different varieties of cookies are produced.
After the introduction, we were taken to the production site and explained how the manufacturing process takes place. Different segment and layouts were briefly explained to the students. There were three types of packaging namely primary – which has direct contact with the cookies and protects them, secondary – which protects the primary package, tertiary which protects both.
Assembling, Quality checking, warehousing, loading and unloading of the raw materials, and packaging were some of the major functions to which the students were exposed to.
Mr. Sanath Kumar spent 25 minutes in clarifying doubts and addressing students questions.
The students were taken to factory outlet at the entrance of the UNBIC factory premises. The students arrived back to the campus at 4:00 PM.
