Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign Reinforces Patriotism and Participation

Why in the News ?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to participate actively in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and celebrate the national flag during Independence Day festivities. This year’s campaign also commemorates the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram through nationwide and global initiatives.

Har Ghar Tiranga 2026: Key Initiatives

●     Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to participate enthusiastically in the Har Ghar Tiranga movement and reaffirm their commitment towards building a Viksit Bharat.

●     The campaign seeks to strengthen citizens’ emotional connection with the National Flag and promote collective participation in Independence Day celebrations.

●     This year’s campaign gives special emphasis to Vande Mataram, coinciding with the commemoration of its 150th anniversary.

●     The Ministry of Culture is organising several public programmes to take the spirit of patriotism to streets and households.

●     Major activities include Tiranga Yatras, Tiranga Rallies and Tiranga Concerts across the country.

●     Mass singing of Vande Mataram will form an important part of the celebrations.

●     Citizens have been encouraged to hoist the Tricolour at their homes and share selfies through the official Har Ghar Tiranga platform.

●     The campaign has evolved into a major public participation initiative associated with Independence Day.

Suryapath Tiranga and National Integration

●     A major new feature this year is ‘Suryapath Tiranga’, described as a first-of-its-kind initiative.

●     It seeks to connect Indians across the world through a common celebration centred on the Tricolour.

●     The initiative aims to extend the campaign beyond India and create a sense of global Indian participation.

●     The 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram provides an opportunity to celebrate the song’s historical and cultural significance.

●     The campaign combines patriotism, cultural participation and public engagement rather than restricting Independence Day observance to official programmes.

●     Widespread participation can strengthen national unity, civic engagement and collective identity.

●     The initiative also demonstrates the use of digital platforms and social media to encourage mass participation in national events.

 About National Flag and Vande Mataram:

●     Article 51A(a) of the Constitution makes it a Fundamental Duty of every citizen to respect the Constitution, its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem.

●     The Indian National Flag consists of three horizontal colours with the Ashoka Chakra at its centre.

●     Saffron represents courage and sacrifice, white represents truth and peace, while green represents fertility, growth and auspiciousness.

●     The Ashoka Chakra has 24 spokes and represents the eternal wheel of dharma and progress.

●     Vande Mataram, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, holds an important place in India’s freedom struggle.

●     It was adopted as India’s National Song, while Jana Gana Mana is the National Anthem.

●     The Flag Code of India, 2002 regulates the display of the National Flag and was amended in subsequent years to facilitate wider public participation while maintaining its dignity.
