Beyond the Screen: Understanding Social Media Anxiety
On 25th March 2026, the Women Empowerment Cell under the IQAC initiative at Universal School of Administration organized an insightful awareness session titled “Beyond the Screen: Understanding Social Media Anxiety.” The program aimed to help students understand the psychological effects of excessive social media use and encourage healthier digital habits.

The session was presided over by Mr. R. Upendra Shetty, Chairman of Universal Group of Institutions, who emphasized the importance of balancing technology with mental well-being. The keynote session was delivered by Mrs. Rajalakshmi Kowshik, Psychologist and RCI-Registered Rehabilitation Professional, who explained how constant comparison, online validation, and digital overload can contribute to anxiety, low self-esteem, and stress among young people.
Through interactive discussion and real-life examples, the speaker highlighted practical strategies such as mindful social media use, digital detox practices, and building strong offline relationships. Students actively engaged in the session, sharing their experiences and reflecting on how social media influences their daily lives.
The event successfully created awareness about mental health in the digital age, encouraging students to use technology responsibly while prioritizing emotional well-being. The program concluded with a message that social media should be a tool for connection and learning, not a source of pressure or anxiety.
