Varya Boosts India’s Indigenous Video AI Capabilities

The IndiaAI Mission has launched Varya, an indigenous video-generation AI model developed by Avtaar. Designed to make advanced video AI more affordable and culturally relevant, Varya marks a significant step in India’s efforts to build self-reliant Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities.
Varya: India’s New Indigenous Video AI Model
● Varya is a distilled video-generation AI model launched under the IndiaAI Mission.
● It has been developed by Avtaar, an AI-focused transformation company, with support from the Government of India.
● The model uses a distillation technique that reduces video generation processes from 50 computational steps to only 4 steps.
● This innovation makes Varya up to 10 times more cost-efficient compared to several leading global video-generation models.
● According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the model aims to make frontier AI technologies more accessible, affordable, and scalable.
● At the launch event, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan described Varya as a major milestone in India’s journey toward developing indigenous foundational AI models.

● The model is designed to generate culturally rich visual content reflecting India’s diversity, including:
